COVID-19 Resources
Many of us have been ordered to stay home to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This has led to fewer hours at work, cuts in employment altogether, kids engaging in virtual school, and a strict lack of travel. With these effects and many others in mind, Sociedad Latina wants to share an extensive list of general and Boston-based resources to help us get through this lock down.
1. The City of Boston consistently updates this list of food resources throughout the city, including a map of locations for Boston Public Schools' meal sites, how to apply to the SNAP program, and others.
2. Massachusetts outlines how to apply for Unemployment Benefits and other information about financial resources during the COVID-19 outbreak. Note: the link leads to an English page, click here for a page in Spanish. The page can also be translated to Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, etc. by clicking on the image of a globe on the blue bar at the top of the page.
1. Mental Health America is responding to the increased vulnerability of individuals with current mental health conditions as well as the millions who can develop them during these anxious times. This list of resources offers support to health care workers to parents dealing with the outbreak and lock down, and many other groups.
2. TrillFit has uploaded a variety of at-home workout routines that you can watch and follow.
3. Rolling Without Limits offers 7 strength exercises for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
1. Khan Academy is an online learning website that has hundreds of videos with worked examples on subjects ranging from math to the humanities. The content also ranges from pre-K education to college level content.
2. MIT OpenCourseWare is entire database of real MIT courses, many with video lectures, homework with solutions, and exams. This is powerful tool for college students looking for extra help beyond their virtual professors.
3. Hyperallergic has compiled a list of over 2,500 museums from all around the world that you can visit from your computer, phone, or tablet. From New York City's Guggenheim to Paris' Louvre, this list will expose you to gorgeous digital galleries.
1. Boston Public Schools are helping students and families without computers at home to receive them. This website also has links on how to obtain free internet and tips to help students transition to online learning.
2. Comcast is offering a complimentary 60 days of WiFi for eligible low-income households to make sure kids can continue their education comfortably and adults can work remotely.
3. Charter is offering 60 days of free internet, installation fees waived as well, to all new apply households with K-12 or college students
1. Totally The Bomb compiled links to 33 National Parks that have online tours! Explore this set of parks to enjoy these images of nature or to determine the location of your next trip!
2. SketchPad lets you channel your inner artist or just brush up on skills you already have! Take time to create drawings to express yourself and capture your vision.
3. Chrome Music Lab lets you play around with different sounds, instruments, and drums to make elementary or complex lush beats for free.
