We Are In This Together

Update on COVID-19

Dear Sociedad Latina Community,

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting our country in an unprecedented way. In the wake of city and state-wide closures, Sociedad Latina would like to share with you how we are working as an organization to protect our youth, families, and staff while still keeping young people engaged, as well as providing resources to our families most in need. Here are a few steps we are taking to continue to work with our community as safely as possible:

  • Face to face programming will be suspended and staff will be working remotely until March 30. This may be extended based on circumstances.

  • Our staff will continue to work virtually with our young people on academic supports, our overall organizational projects, and organizing campaigns.

  • Staff will be reaching out continuously to our youth and families to determine current needsconnect them with resources, and check-in on their overall well-being

As part of this effort, Sociedad Latina will be working with Roxbury and Jamaica Plain neighbors on a mutual aid network to match individuals and families in need with resources. Sociedad Latina will focus its efforts on helping to build a rapid response network for and with Mission Hill residents as part of this network. We are asking residents in Mission Hill to sign up to volunteer resources and/or time and to spread the word to those residents in Mission Hill who need assistance by sharing the platform. To sign up, click here.

We are also seeking Mission Hill residents who are interested in being part of leading these efforts as a neighborhood pod with other residents. Please email Andrea Gilbert if you are interested: acosta@sociedadlatina.org.

Although we will not be physically in the office, our staff will be closely monitoring their emails remotely and our phone number (617-442-4299) remains in service so that our operations can continue without any delay. We will continue to keep our community updated if anything changes.

We understand that this is a stressful and tense time for our community, and we encourage you to focus on your health and well-being during this time. For more information and resources about COVID-19 prevention and managing stress, click here.

Thank you for your support of Sociedad Latina.

Sincerely,

Alexandra Oliver-Dávila
