This fall, Sociedad Latina launched our Saturday component of Academy for Latinos Achieving Success, which offers college access and career readiness to high school English Learners in Boston Public Schools.

Hosted by Wentworth Institute of Technology, our students receive tools in self-identity, culture, goal setting, college planning, resume writing, and preparing for a job interview. In addition, they receive one-on-one mentoring from a college student or professional to support with their college planning process. Students also gain critical skills and create their own projects in STEM exploration workshops led by staff and students of Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Jason D., a 9th grader from Madison Park Technical Vocational High School recently joined the program. “I just moved here from Brazil last summer. This program helps me a lot because I learn about what it takes to get into MIT, my dream school. The teachers also help me learn more English!”

The second session for Saturday Escalera began February 3 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Wentworth Institute of Technology. For more information about enrollment or interest in becoming a mentor, please contact Dan Davis at daniel@sociedadlatina.org.
