Development Associate


The Development Associate assists with implementing all aspects of Sociedad Latina’s fundraising plan, including grant writing, events and individual donor solicitation. The Development Associate reports directly to the Associate Director and works closely with the entire staff, including our Executive Director, Program Director and members of the Board of Directors.

Specific Duties

The Development Associate supports all of the agency’s fundraising efforts, including researching and submitting grants, planning events and developing an individual donor database and solicitation strategy. Specific duties include:

Evaluation
• Oversees evaluation of programs, including youth development assessments
• Works in collaboration with Program Director to identify areas for improvement and adjustments
• Ensures grant goals and objectives are met
• Oversees the input of data from front line staff


Grants
• Research and identify sources of funding for programmatic and operational support.
• Write and edit grant proposals, reports, and other correspondence to corporate and foundation donors. Track proposal deadlines, status, and results.
• Write and edit reports, tracking both internal and external deadlines.
• Oversee the acknowledgment and recognition of all corporate and foundation grants. Update funders on website and in all of organizations written materials.
• Assist with general operations of the development staff as needed, such as mailings, events, and special activities or campaigns.

Events
• Manage Sociedad Latina’s fundraising events.
• Strategize with leadership team to develop new fundraising events and donor events as well as volunteer appreciation events
• Organize fellow staff, Board members, volunteers, and vendors to support events
• Work with the Development staff to coordinate all mailing lists and solicitations
• Oversee publicity/marketing strategies, including the design, production and use of all written and electronic communications for development and marketing purposes, including annual report, web site, press releases, and collateral materials

Individual donors
• Design, launch, and track solicitations, appeals, and other donor mailings.
• Coordinate semi-annual mail solicitation campaigns.
• Coordinate donor contact activities: acknowledgements, announcements, newsletters, etc.

 

Experience and Qualifications
• Previous grant-writing experience and donor solicitation required.
• Event planning, marketing and media background strongly preferred.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, including attention to detail, clarity of expression and familiarity with proposal structure/language.
• Demonstrated commitment to Sociedad Latina’s mission of supporting Latino youth and families.
• Experience creating and evaluating programs
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications and data entry.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred.
