Community Organizer, Youth Community Organizing Program
Sociedad Latina, a non-profit organization serving youth and their families in the Mission Hill neighborhood and the Greater Boston Area, is looking for a creative, organized professional with a background in education and experience working with youth. The Community Organizer will work in partnership with youth to identify issues, potential solutions, and lead organizing campaigns that bring about positive changes for the youth and families of Mission Hill and Boston at-large. Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all activities of the Youth Community Organizing Program.
- Recruit youth from Mission Hill and the greater Boston area to participate in the activities of community organizing initiatives.
- Conduct on-going recruitment of youth and parents and develop culturally competent, bilingual materials related to the program.
- Coordinate activities/trainings/meetings for youth that develop leadership and multi-media skills, promote participation in civic life, and focus on issues that pertain to their community.
- Work in partnership with youth and parents to explore issues affecting them and their families related to health, education, and quality of life issues; develop action oriented strategies for change.
- Work closely with partner organizations on community organizing initiatives.
- Work closely with all Sociedad Latina staff to link youth and parents of SL into community organizing initiatives.
- Support the Latinos in Leadership Action and Change (LILAAC) parent organizing program and education-related initiatives.
- Conduct community outreach and assessments to determine organizing initiatives.
- Facilitate positive communication and build relationships between Sociedad Latina and parents of the LILAAC program.
- Facilitate positive communication and build relationships between Sociedad Latina and parents of youth program participants.
- Work in partnership with youth community organizers and Program Director on different organizing initiatives alongside youth community organizing campaigns.
- Responsible for data collection, grant reporting and evaluation, including preparation of Outcome Measurement Reports.
- Reports to Program Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Include:
- A commitment and experience working with youth.
- Interpersonal and cultural sensitivity
- Good communication and written skills
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Comfort/willingness in working with ages 6-21.
- Applicant must have excellent management, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- Must be willing to work 10-6PM some weekends and evenings.
Education Required:
B.A. in Education or related field, 1-3 years experience in urban education and/or programs for urban youth and community organizing experience.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position.
