Education Program Coordinator
Sociedad Latina, a non-profit organization serving youth and their families in the Mission Hill neighborhood and the Greater Boston Area, is looking for a creative, organized professional with a background in education and experience working with youth to assist in coordinating the Mission Enrichment After-School Program for youth in grades 6-8. The Education Program Coordinator of Sociedad Latina is a full-time position with the following responsibilities:
- In partnership with the education team, develop curriculum materials and design and lead whole-brain learning activities to increase academic skills of children.
- Encourage program participants to follow program agreements and manage behavior and discipline within program.
- Maintain participant portfolios and communication with participants’ school teachers.
- Conduct registration and on-going recruitment and maintain necessary participant files.
- Maintain materials, supplies and space of the program.
- Responsible for program paperwork, data collection, grant reporting, and evaluation.
- Recruit, supervise and coordinate employed interns with a particular focus and attention to developing leadership skills.
- Attend funder, partner and community meetings to bridge relationships & represent Sociedad Latina.
- Recruit, supervise and coordinate adult volunteers and college volunteer leaders.
- Recruit and supervise consultants of Education Program Creative Clubs.
- Coordinate quarterly meetings and communication with parents of program participants and Youth Leaders to update parents on progress, highlights and/or challenges.
- Facilitate positive communication and build relationships between Sociedad Latina and parents of program participants.
- Work as a liaison to continue to build and sustain relationships and communication between Sociedad Latina and the Mission Grammar, Maurice J. Tobin and Mission Hill schools.
- Represent Sociedad Latina at middle school teacher meetings.
- Create project based curriculum for implementation in the Mission Enrichment Program.
- Support colleagues and fellow staff by working with children & youth ages 6-18.
- Reports to Educational Program Manager.
- Other duties assigned.
Knowledge:
Minimum one year experience as a teacher, guidance counselor or in youth development/education.
Understanding of educational tests, measurements and statistics.
Understanding of the culture of after school/out of school time programs.
Program design and implementation.
Proven experience in partnership building, including experience as program coordinator.
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with youth.
Demonstrated ability to manage student behavior.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong administrative skills & competencies (time management, systems development, detail-oriented, well organized).
Computer skills (Word, Database, Publisher, Excel, Email & Internet).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proven ability to anticipate, identify, and analyze problems and opportunities and establish priorities with youth.
Proven ability to maintain the flexibility necessary to adapt, respond, and meet the needs of a resource limited organization.
Ability to work with and understand peoples of all ethnic backgrounds.
Demonstrated commitment to working in the non-profit sector.
Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
Comfort/willingness in working with ages 6-21.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position.
Education Required:
BA/BS minimum; teacher or guidance counselor certification preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
